Mentor Contour Profile Gel (CPG) MemoryShape™ Implants
Mentor is the only breast implant made in the United States. They call their gummy bear implant the “CPG,” which stands for Contour Profile Gel. They call the silicone gel that fills it MemoryShape™ because of its tendency to maintain its shape. The implants are covered with a special texturing which is a more aggressive form of the Siltex™ texturing used on all their other textured breast implants.

Sientra Breast Implants
Sientra breast implants are made in Brazil, a country widely known for its plastic surgery and evolving first world technological economy. These implants are made under the exact same standards as the Allergan and Mentor implants. Sientra makes implants that are both round and anatomic. Though some surgeons call their round implant a gummy bear, it is essentially the same as the round implants made by Allergan and Mentor.

Asymmetric Breasts
Even the most beautiful breasts do not necessarily match. But when the amount of unevenness concerns a patient, then efforts can be made to make them more equal. Sometimes they are uneven because of size, sometimes the degree of droopiness, and sometimes just a fundamental difference in shape. Because of their wide range of shapes and sizes, gummy bear implants affords the surgeon is a greater number of options for correcting breast asymmetry.

Constricted Breasts
The opposite of a loose and droopy breast is one that has skin that appears tight or constricted. When severe, such breasts are called “tuberous” or “tubular.” Such breasts do not just need volume, but they need specific reshaping. The multitude of shapes of gummy bear implants and their relative form stability gives the surgeon an important tool for reshaping these breasts.

Breast Lift with Augmentation
While an implant can fill up a deflated breast, an implant does not lift a droopy breast. Though some people expected that the shape of a gummy bear implant would lift a droopy breast, it does not. A droopy breast can only be fixed with a lift. And if a woman also wants to be larger, then she can have an augmentation with the lift. Gummy bear implants have a role in these difficult situations.

Revision Augmentation with Gummy Bear Implants
Gummy bear implants are useful in treating many of the common complications of breast augmentation. Rippling is predominately a problem of having very thin tissue over an implant, but the more highly cohesive gel in gummy bear implants seems to make them less prone to ripple. The more form stable tendency of gummy bear implants makes them helpful for improving the appearance of misshapen breasts.

Long Term Follow-up
Any patient receiving a breast implant must understand that they are almost certain to have a revision surgery at some point. The goal at the first surgery is to postpone that as much as possible and to set that next operation up to be as simple as possible. Because of the resistance to folds and the maintenance of shape, gummy bear breast implants are demonstrating excellent long term results, often staying soft and maintaining a beautiful look years after they were placed.
